YouTube Find of the Day

Hey Loves... I seen this Youtube post on FaceBook today and knew I had to repost it to my blog. It's a poem entitled Sex, Marriage, & Fairy tails by Jefferson Bethke. He hails from Tacoma, Washington and has a raw talent in spoken word. He offered the following statement when talking about the inspiration and purpose of the poem:
"Marriage today is struggling. Divorces, adultery, misconceptions, etc are plaguing not only the institution of marriage itself but the products of those marriages (my generation and the next). My hope in this poem is to highlight the most frequent and problematic issues marriages face today while also pointing to Jesus as the ultimate healer, redeemer, and restoring of every marriage. Whether single or married, my intention would be that this poem would allow you to look more deeply to Jesus to either better your current marriage , or prepare for your future marriage".

Can All My Real Men Please STAND UP!!!

Happy New Year Loves!!!! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and brought in 2012 the right way (with family and people you love… Lord knows that’s exactly what I did). This year should be a year of change, improvement, empowerment, and higher intellect in one area of our lives or more.  We should dedicate this year on becoming better than we were last year. I myself have decided that this year I will no longer accept the things that I know are wrong and are against my beliefs from myself or the people I surround myself with. Now with that being said today while on Twitter (y’all know I’m addicted) I came across a tweet my friend posted that just so happen spark up a nice debate between me and a fellow tweeter. The tweet read as follows:

One my followers response to that post was “ain’t Nothing Wrong wit it if she the 1 Driving! Lol” which is what got my fire burning and caused the debate.  I and that person went back and forth on twitter for a while and then he posted these two comments:

Which brought me here and made me ask this question: Is chivalry completely dead and gone from today’s men? I really don’t understand it anymore… It’s 2012 and I’m really trying to figure out what are we teaching our young boys now. These same boys that will grow up to become full grown men and lovers of our girls that will grow up to be women?  What are we teaching our future husbands, fathers, baby’s daddies, or whatever category they may be placed in? Are days gone when we women should stop expecting our men to pump our gas; pull out and push in our chairs, and open, hold, and close the door behind us??? Which makes me wonder what exactly are we teaching our girls… That chivalrous behavior is no longer the norm and shouldn’t be expect or require by the men of today and tomorrow? That they should rather learn how to do all these things for themselves to demonstrate their so called “independence”? If so, I feel we are setting these young men and women up for failure when it comes to them keeping a lasting and promising relationship. What happened to the days when parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and authoritative figures sat these children down and explained to them what should and should not be expected by the opposite sex? Did it fall when so many of our babies decided to start making and having babies of their own; when fathers stop taking their rightful place in the home and stopped claiming to be the head of a house hold they helped to build; when “Big Momma” decided that she no longer wanted to be viewed as the matriarch of the family and would rather be out partying and having a life of her own; or was it when mothers and fathers decided that these are their kids and NOBODY better not say nothing to them which tore down the village that was put in place to help raise them???

Well since the reasons behind why our future Kings and Queens weren’t taught to act as such is unknown, I decided to take it upon myself to help lead you back to your throne

Young men need to know that the only true way to get respect is to show it to others first, especially to women. If you want a lady you need first present yourself as a gentleman. The same goes for these young girls and women. A lot of you need to stop being professional jump-offs and start acting with more class and dignity. Women need to stop being so concerned with our independence since it doesn’t seem like it’s doing anything but help to lower our standards and expectations of men. In no way am I stating that independence is bad thing because I too consider myself an independent woman. But do not become so independent that you forget that you’re a lady and should be treated as such. Stop allowing the men we decide to keep in our company to do little to show that they have and know what common courtesy is all about. I’m not saying that it’s 100% your fault that most men don’t open doors for women like they use to, but it is your fault if they’re not doing it for you. It’s time that we went back to men courting women and them both knowing what all that should entail. They need to know that this includes the practice of pulling out and pushing in chairs, calling instead of texting as a form of communication, helping us with our bags, taking out the trash, offering your coat or jacket if we’re cold, picking up the tab on dates, walking us to our front doors, opening and holding our door and closing it behind us, and last but not least getting out to pump the gas for us when we stop at the gas station.

All these things should be taught to our boys and expected for our girls. In this New Year we should make an effort get back to teaching our boys how to be gentlemen and our girls to be ladies. Stop letting MTV, BET, and VH1 depict what image they see and learn how to become their Walking, Talking Example. Well until next time thanks for having your daily Piece of PieXOXOXO
