YouTube Find of the Day

HAPPY TUESDAY LOVES... As you all know, I stay on YouTube (I LOVE IT) looking up everything from make-up tutorials, fashion ideas, old t.v. shows, and new music. Well last night I came across these two GREAT singers Ivana and Jessica's page. The only word that I have to describe them is DOPE!!! VanJess which is what they refer to themselves as are originally from Lagos, Nigeria but now reside in Rancho Cucamonga, California. They have real raw talent and I won't be surprised if I see them on 106 and Park or MTV deputing their single soon. On their YouTube page (http://www.youtube.com/vanjess24) they cover artist like Beyonce, Adele, Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Chris Brown and Jessi J (a artist that I knew nothing about until I heard their cover of her songs, THANKS LADIES) just to name a few. If you're a fan of good singers and good music I highly suggest you visit their page. You can also follow them on twitter at: http://www.twitter.com/vanjessmusic, on FB: http://www.facebook.com/VanJess and on Tumblr:http://vaninc.tumblr.comhttp://jessivanjess.tumblr.comhttp://vanjess.tumblr.com. Remember that we must support are own. Well until next time, thanks for getting your daily Piece of Pie XOXOXO

Where Should the Line Be Drawn With Our Children

HAPPY MONDAY LOVES... I hope you all had as wonderful of a weekend as did. As you all know I love me some Willow Smith (my daughter that I allowed Will & Jada to adopt) and today a friend sent me the link to her new video Fireball feat. Nikki Minaj but I must admit that after watching it, I am a little on the fence about how I should feel about it. I love that fact that she's doing her thing and the amount of ambition and determination she has for her to be such a young age, but she is just 11 years old. This video is totally different from her debut of Whip My Hair. In that video she seemed a lot more bubble gum and pop with a hint of attitude but with her new video/song it seems like her child like, bubble gum attitude was thrown out the window and she some how embodied Beyonce's "Sasha Fierce" alter ego. I'm trying to figure out where should we draw the line between child performer and a child on the road of being perceived as acting too grown/old for their age. I'm confused and would love your feedback. Do you all think Willow is on fast track to child stardom or loosing her child like qualities???

OOTD

Hey Loves... Today I decided to add a new element and piece to the pie, Outfit Of The Day. This portion of the blog will be dedicated to showing off some of the best outfits that I either find via the web, magazines, or through a person I happen to come across while out on The Town (BTW I rep the beautiful Emerald City, Seattle Washington).  Today while on Twitter (make sure you follow me @cutiepapya) I came across this GREAT pic:

This is a picture of model and creator of KA'OIR COSMETICS (check the lip game and the website at:  http://www.KAOIR.com), Keyshia Dior. She calls this her Versace outfit and I personally LOVE IT!!!! Keyshia is known for her creative outfits and flawless make-up and like always she did not disappoint with this look. If you would like to see more of Ms. K. Dior's looks follow her Twitter page @KeyshiaDior. Also be sure to stay tuned for more OOTD's. Well until next time thanks for having your daily Piece of Pie XOXOXO

Hey Loves...School of Style has listed 10 reasons why being a stylist is one of the best jobs ever!
Fashion stylist, wardrobe stylist, or whatever you want to call it … It is one of the most sought after careers of the moment. And why shouldn’t it be? It’s a pretty sweet job. I mean you get to shop and hang out with beautiful people all day.
Of course, those aren’t the only reasons to consider wardrobe styling as a career. We have created a
Top 10 List of Reasons Why Being a Stylist is the Best Job EVER! Check it out …
1.) Shopping, shopping, and more shopping! If you love to shop, then wardrobe styling is definitely the job for you. Your job is to shop. Shopping in department stores, showrooms, boutiques, costume houses … you get paid to be a shopping machine.
2.) Beautiful clothes are your new best friends: As an aspiring wardrobe stylist you probably have spent most of your life drooling over fashion magazines and clothes that cost more than your rent. As as working stylist you will get to see and touch these beauties on a regular basis. Its a dream come true.
3.) Being your own boss (sorta): Gone are the days of having one big scary boss. When you are a stylist you are working for yourself. Sure you will have clients that act as your boss, but those are on a job by job basis. Being your own boss is a beautiful thing.
4.) Your workday is always different: No Groundhog Day here! When you are a stylist everyday is different. One day you may be working on a music video, another day you might be dressing models for a music video. Everyday is a surprise in this profession.
5.) Working with the beautiful, the talented, and the famous: Who needs stylists anyway? Celebrities, musicians, and models mostly. If you are a stylist guess who you will be interacting with at work … Exactly!
6.) Traveling: This all depends on your client, of course, but stylists tend to do a bit of traveling. New York, Japan, Los Angeles, Paris … you never know where you’ll end up for a job.
7.) Wave bye, bye to your boring desk job! If being chained to a desk is your biggest nightmare, then you will be happy to find out that you don’t have to spend too much time there. A lot of your job will involve being on set or in your car.
8.) Free clothes: We won’t lie, just because you are a stylist doesn’t means its going to be raining clothes 24/7 but occasionally the fashion fairy will drop a few treats in your closet.
9.) Backstage access to cool events: When you are dressing celebs and musicians you go where they go, which means backstage access to TV shows, concerts, and other cool events.
10.) Meeting new people: Like we mentioned earlier, your workday will always be different and that means meeting different people. Every job opens up the door for meeting new directors, photographers, makeup artists, hair people, models, celebrities, other stylists, and the list goes on …

If these things sound good to you and you feel you have a flare and an eye for fashion why not try a profession in the industry. Start with asking to intern for your local stylist, create a fashion blog, or get a part time job at a department store. If this is truly your calling work hard until you get the answer you want. But until then always remember that you have to be focused and motivated in order to succeed in this industry. With passion, a great outfit, and hot shoes everything can't help but to fall into place. Well until next time...Thanks for having your daily Piece of Pie XOXOXO

Giving Others Something To Be Thankful For This Holiday Season

It's the season for the blessed to be a blessing to others. Today I will be volunteering at the "Thanks-Give-N-Go Turkey Give-Away ". This event is sponsored by local NBA stars Brandon Roy , Jamal Crawford , Will Conroy , Isaiah Thomas  and Spencer Hawes . They also teamed up with Council member  Bruce Harrell and Mayor Mike McGinn  to give away 2,000 Thanksgiving dinners to families on the free and reduced lunch program. The event takes place today from 5-8 pm at the Rainier Community Center located at 4600 38th Avenue South, Seattle WA. All families who are on the free and reduced lunch program can receive a free Thanksgiving meal. This is very good for the community and I'm sure all that contributed will love your support.

It's Time To Leave Your Mark & Let The World Know, YOU WERE HERE...

Today I just wanted to share a few things with you all. Last night while driving home Beyonce's song "I Was Here" started to play and as I sat and listen to the lyrics I realized how powerful of a song it really is. She sings on how see doesn't want to live her life with regrets, live it to the fullest, and touch hearts along the way. Which made me come to the realization that what she was singing about is ultimently everyone’s goal and that some how everyone should be able to related to that song? Everyone wants to live a life that makes a difference and leaves an impact in the world we live in. I truly don't believe that there is anyone that as a child told themselves that "I want to grow up to be a no body and I don't care where my life ends up", NO... every child starts with a dream. It could be go to school and make good grades, to be a good parent, to have a good job, be a doctor, the next president, or to just have a better life than what they may be currently living in, but either way children live their lives with different dreams and things they see themselves accomplishing once they grow up. What changes those dreams and aspirations are the different obstacles and circumstances that they may be faced with that deter and make them second guess if the aspirations they once were so passionate about could really just be figments of future that will never come to pass. But I just wanted to give a word of encouragement to all of those who feel like their dreams will never become part of their reality or that their goals maybe too hard for them to ever reach, I want to tell you to never give up. Life is filled with ups and downs, twist and turns, and sometimes some occasional speed bumps and roads blocks. But it’s up to you to learn how to ride through life’s changes and disappointments. You have to make the decision within yourself that you will live life until your time is done and when your clock does run out you will be able to honestly say to yourself that you lived, you loved, you did, you’ve done everything that you wanted and it was more than you thought it would be. That you somehow left your mark so that everyone will know YOU WERE HERE...

Ambitious Friday

HEY LOVES and TGIF!!!! I am so happy the weekend is finally here and pretty sure all of you are too. Even though it is Friday and I know so many of us are anxious for the weekend to begin, I don't want you all to lose your momentum. Often times people view Fridays or the weekend in general as their time to move in slow motion and not be as motivated to complete certain tasks as they would during the week. But it is actually during this time when we need to be more motivated and eager to get the things we need accomplished. It’s our free and down time when we are less open to distractions and interruptions that can hinder us from carrying out those personal goals we have for ourselves. To help motivate and keep you focused on your set goals (even in your spare time) I posted my go to song that helps remind me that I’m an Ambitious Girl and need to constantly grow and move forward in my efforts to be the best me I can be. I hope it will help and do the same for you. Well until next time thanks for having you daily Piece of Pie XOXOXO

R.I.P Heavy D...

You Look So Much Better When You Smile!!!

There are so many benefits of smiling. Here are some of the few:
         1. It boost your immune system
  2. It lowers blood pressure.
                            3. It make us look and feel more attractive.

Happy Tuesday Loves!!!!! Today while listening and watching the video to Kirk Franklin’s new hit song Smile. I sat back to really listen attentively to the song lyrics and really seek out the message that Kirk was trying to get across. I realized how so many people don’t know how beneficial their smile is and how much of an impact just a smile and laughter can bring to a person’s life.  Laughter is life’s remedy and medicine to cast out pain, anger, depression, loneliness, and hate.  Positive psychology names the propensity for laughter and sense of humor as one of the 24 main signature strengths a person can possess.  Laughter connects us with others. Just as with smiling and kindness.  Most people find that laughter is contagious, so if you bring more laughter into your life, you can most likely help others around you to laugh more, and realize these benefits as well. By elevating the mood of those around you, you can reduce their stress levels, and perhaps improve the quality of social interaction you experience with them. So no matter what kind of day you are having, the challenges and hardships you are facing, or what occurred in the past that may have given you the feeling that your smile is now lost and gone… Learn to walk with your head held high and a smile upon your face!!! Not only will it make you feel better, it will help those around you as well. Like they saying goes: “you truly can never hold a grudge with a happy person.”   Until next time, thanks for having you daily Piece of Pie XOXOXO

Monday Motivation

Hey Loves .... Today I just wanted to give you a little motivation and inspiration to move forward. So many times we often struggle with image and the constant feeling of having to please others while setting aside our true emotions to do what we feel could bring true happiness to our lives. Well today I just wanted to let you know that life is too short and you shouldn't spend it people pleasing your way through it. Sometimes this world calls for you to let your hair down, be spontaneous, and do something that's just for your pure enjoyment. Book a trip to a place you've always wanted to go, sign up to take a dance class that you've always wanted to take, try out some new recipes and invite your friends over for a dinner party to try it out, run a marathon, go rock climbing, try speed dating, learn how to paint... Whatever is your heart’s desire, forget what others may say or think, grab some Nike's & JUST DO IT!!!  This is your life and it's up to you to figure out what story you what to tell and the picture you want to be painted of you. If you always allow others to influence & determine how you live, it's just like hiring a ghost writer. Learn how to be your own author and illustrator of your life story. Until next time, thanks for having your daily Piece of Pie XOXOXO

Embrace the BEAUTIFULNESS of YOU!!!

"I was beautifully and wonderfully made"

HEY LOVES ....This morning after reading an article by Essence magazine's Editor-In-Chief, Constance C.R. White entitled Our Own Standards of Beauty” (November 2011 issue of Essence Magazine), I decided that every day I am going to wake up & give myself conformation that I was beautifully and wonderfully made. Everything about me is the way it's supposed to be and the fact that I'm ME is why I DAZZLE. And when I step out onto the court of my life, I'm am not going to hesitate to strut a little, because I am the only the me there is, which makes me the BEST and most VALUED Ashleigh "Leighanton'e" McCurdy there ever will be. After coming to this conclusion for myself I then thought, this should be an attitude that every woman should possess, especially my fellow women of color but I know far too many of them do not. So I wanted to just take it upon myself to tell anyone who just might come across this blog that "YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL" because just as Ms. White expresses in the article "Every woman has the right to have her beauty recognized" and should never hesitate to put it on display for the world to admire. Rather than take someone else's assessment of your beauty and attractiveness, learn to trust your own judgment and start forming your own opinions on the matter. We must learn how to appreciate and embrace the person God created us be and remember that He never makes mistakes. So if you're light skin OWN IT , if you're dark skin LOVE IT  and if you fall somewhere in between, never let anyone stop you from being WONDERFUL YOU!!!! Always remember to walk with your shoulders back, head held high, a smile on your face, and little strut in your step because GIRL YOU GOTTA GOING ON!!!!

Until next time, thanks for having your daily Piece of PieXOXOXO
